Designing a Compliance-Critical Dashboard for High-Risk Data Operations

Project Overview :

This project involved designing an enterprise dashboard for compliance-critical workflows where users make high-risk, irreversible decisions based on large volumes of data and AI-assisted outputs.

Web Dashboard (Enterprise / B2B)

Timeline :

~4 months

Role :

Senior UI/UX Designer

Industry :

Product Management, Engineering, QA

Problem Statement :

The platform needed to support:

  • Compliance-sensitive workflows

  • High-risk approvals and escalations

  • Role-based access and visibility

  • AI-generated insights requiring human oversight

Any ambiguity could result in serious operational or legal risk.

Objectives, Constraints & Trade-offs :

Objectives :

  • Confident, defensible decision-making

  • Clear system states and progress

  • Multi-role support in a single dashboard

Constraints :

  • Strict security and compliance rules

  • Irreversible actions

  • Complex data state transitions

My Role & Responsibilities :

I led the end-to-end UX, including:

  • Information architecture for complex workflows

  • Role-based visibility and permissions

  • Scalable layout and component systems

  • High-fidelity UI and interaction states

Key UX Insights & Design Strategy :

Insights :

  • Confidence matters more than speed

  • High-risk actions require context and confirmation

  • AI outputs need clarity, not mystery

Strategy :

  • Operational (not reporting) dashboard design

  • Explicit confirmation patterns

  • Progressive disclosure for sensitive data

Design Execution :

  • Role-aware overview screens

  • Review-focused tables with state indicators

  • Confirmation flows for irreversible actions

  • Clear error and exception states

Impact & Learnings :

Impact :

  • Reduced cognitive load in high-risk workflows

  • Improved clarity at decision points

  • Enabled compliant, confident operations

Learnings :

In high-risk systems, UX is about responsibility, not richness.
